All 12 of the Senior School ensembles performed a gloriously lush programme of music in Friday’s Spring Concert.
The theme was ‘Country Gardens’, so the audience in the Main Hall was entertained by music inspired by spring flora and fauna. The evening opened with Music Scholar Sasha performing the oboe solo in Hummel’s Theme and Variations, accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra – a stunning start.
Another highlight was Year 11 Jennifer’s recorder solo in Alessandro Marcello’s Recorder Concerto in D minor with the Downton Early Music Group.
The Year 7 Choir had some fun performing ‘Badgers and Hedgehogs‘ by Andrew Carter.
The Senior Choir is currently very strong, last year’s choir tour to Tuscany probably helping to swell its ranks to its biggest ever. The Senior Choir closed the evening with beautiful renditions of A bunch of thyme by Michael Neaum, Bob Chilcott’s The lily and the rose and finally John Rutter’s rousing For the beauty of the earth.
