Local artist Lana Arkhi joined us this week to give Year 6 a workshop on manga art. Lana originates from Moscow and moved to Broadstairs eight years ago to pursue her artistic work, becoming a member of the Royal Society of Miniatures.
She took each of the Year 6 classes through the basics of facial drawing with a specific look at manga, which ties in with this term’s topic of Japanese art.
Girls were taught how to set out the facial features and learned the differences between portrait drawing and the manga style. Lana demonstrated character creation and use of graphic markers to add colour in a neat and clear way.
It was a fantastic addition to the curriculum and all the girls commented on how much they enjoyedn it and how much they had learned.
