It was a fantastic day out; Year 5 went to Greenwich for a visit to the Royal Observatory, the Planetarium and Greenwich Park.
Pupils learnt about many of the famous astronomers who have influenced our understanding of space on a tour of the Observatory. They then had a workshop on the earth, moon and sun, where they had to guess the relative size of the earth in comparison to the sun – smaller than we think!
They had a great view of London from the steps at the top of Greenwich Park, so Head of Art Mrs Bradshaw had them sketching the skyline with the help of viewfinders.
The final event was a spectacular private viewing in the Planetarium, which made everyone feel as if they were astronauts exploring space.
Many thanks to Mrs Fewster for organising such an exciting, educational day.
