One of the highlights of the Wally calendar is our Stage and Screen Concert, an informal evening of music where we can enjoy being entertained by students from all years performing numbers from musicals.
It’s also a chance for new parents to watch their daughters perform on the Wally stage, just a month after they joined the Senior School. The Year 7 Choir wrapped up the evening with a joyful rendition of “Life’s a Happy Song” from The Muppets.
Four brave new Year 7s sang solos with great assurance; well done to India, Amelie, Eleanor and Iona. A new Year 9 student, Emilia opened a beautiful medley of Abba songs with “I Had a Dream“. This was followed by one of the evening’s two sister acts, Gracy (Y11) and Ruby (Y13) who performed a lip-wobblingly lovely “Slipping through My Fingers“. Maisy in Y11 rounded off the Abba trio with a moving “The Winner Takes It All“.
Another notable highlight was “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables; Millie in Y11 gave this number its full emotional heft.
The second sister duo was Y13 Katya (one of the evening’s comperes, ably assisted by Izzy) with her new Year 7 sister Valya, who accompanied themselves on ukulele singing “Even When / The Best Part” from High School Musical. They dedicated their song to their oldest sister who left the School in 2020.
We also heard the Wind Band and the Senior Chamber Choir who opened and closed the first half. Many thanks to Miss Leather, Mr Castell and Mr Clements in the Music Department for such a wonderful evening and for creating enabling the students to shine with such confidence.
