Our Junior School Relay team swam astonishingly well to win national silver and bronze medals at the ESSA swimming finals at the weekend.
Isabelle, Elicia, Chloe, Sophie and Eva were accompanied by Wally’s Head Swimming Coach Mr Smith and by Junior School coach Mrs Carr to the event at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
On the day they surpassed expectations by qualifying for the A finals in both the Medley and Freestyle Relay in the Small Schools’ category.
Both finals proved to be fantastic races with very close finishes and extremely fine margins separating those who won medals. Walthamstow Hall performed brilliantly to secure second place in the Medley Relay and third place in the Freestyle Relay. This is out of the top 24 schools in England!
Mr Smith was absolutely delighted with the team’s efforts: “The swimmers rose to the challenges of the day with perfect timing, they delivered vast improvements on their previous times to reach the finals and then earn the medals that they so richly deserve.”
Mr Smith praised Mrs Carr and Mrs Dymond for their assistance in preparing the girls for this competition so well. He also thanked all the parents who travelled and supported the team in Sheffield and an extra thank you to Mrs Carr for her meticulous planning prior to the competition and her support poolside on the day.
Well done Team Wally we are so very proud of you!
