Many thanks to Clinical Psychologist and Sunday Times best-selling author Dr Tara Porter for sharing her wisdom with us yesterday, speaking variously to students, staff and parents.
Dr Porter worked in the NHS for over 25 years in child and adolescent mental health and is the author of the hugely successful “You Don’t Understand Me: The Young Woman’s Guide to Life”. Her down to earth approach and evidence-based observations have given us all something to mull over. In the evening session for parents, Dr Porter raised a laugh suggesting that no one ever complained “My mother never gave me enough advice” and that a parent’s role is to listen and show empathy and curiosity above all.
