An article this week about a ban on mobile phones and lessons on life skills at Westminster College has generated some interest – and prompts us to reassure our parents that these things have been in place for years at Walthamstow Hall!
It has always been the case that students in Years 7 – 11 hand in their mobile phones at morning registration and only get them back before they go home. Sixth Formers are trusted to keep their phones in their bags during the School day.
In their weekly Q lesson, Year 7 pupils have regular practice in holding conversations with an adult – last week they hosted a tea party for members of staff. They also have sessions on how to write letters and emails as well as talks from outside speakers on various practical aspects of life. Life skills are addressed in an age-appropriate fashion with Years 10 and 11 in their Future Ready lessons.
