Olympic rowing champion Emily Craig gave us a compelling account of being an elite athlete when she spoke to the Senior School this week.
Emily and her partner Imogen won gold in the Lightweight Women’s Double Sculls in Paris this summer. They had narrowly missed out on a medal in Tokyo four years earlier and Emily described how this disappointment ultimately led to their renewed determination to win.
She didn’t shy from mentioning the sacrifices that inevitably need to be made along the way – but stressed the importance of keeping perspective alongside the drive to excel.
Emily broke into the national team while studying for a Masters in East Asian art at Sotheby’s. She said she was able to do both by being organised; she handed in her Masters a month early so as not to miss training.
We were all inspired by Emily’s work ethic and wise advice.
