The resilience and initiative synonymous with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme came to the fore last week as Year 9 pupils due to be setting off on their Bronze Award practice expeditions attended a virtual navigation and orienteering session with Duke of Edinburgh Manager Mr Ramsden on MS Teams. Pupils learnt: the main features of a compass, what the direction of travel is, how to orientate a map and how to locate map features, amongst other key skills. Pupils who didn’t happen to have a compass and OS map to hand at home were given handy phone based alternatives to try. Mr Ramsden has also been holding weekly meetings with Year 13 students who are planning their final Gold Award trips.
