We were blown away by the high standard of all the performances on Friday night at Wally Stage & Screen. This was the first concert performed in front of a big audience at School for a long time, and the enjoyment of everyone taking part was wonderful to see.
Students from across the Senior School sang songs from musicals and films old and new: Hamilton, Six, Annie, Wicked, Matilda, Moana and more.
The audience in the hall and watching the live stream event at home were guided through the programme by comperes Abi and Darcey – who also performed their own cheeky number from Tangled, “Mother Knows Best“.
Ruby in Year 13 opened the evening with an assured rendition of Cole Porter’s Anything Goes. Four plucky Year 7s sang solos, just a couple of months after joining the School. There was a duet on alto sax and clarinet from Charlie and Ellie arranged by Charlie herself. Sasha in Y12 accompanied herself on the ukulele, and Year 13 Eve elevated the tone performing a classical soprano piece by Gluck. The Senior Chamber Choir conducted by Miss Leather closed the first half of the concert singing City of Stars from the film La La Land.
Sophia in Year 11 entertained the audience on the piano during the interval, while Year 13s topped up refreshments at the tables, to prevent audience members from moving around too much.
This concert is also when the newest members of the Senior School perform to their parents for the first time, in the Year 7 Choir. Their rendition of Disney’s Let it Go was a great ending to the whole evening.
Huge thanks to the Music Department: Mr Castell, Mr Clements and Miss Leather, for enabling the students to shine in this event and for your accompaniments on percussion and piano. The evening was a technical triumph with sound and vision running smoothly for everyone in the hall and at home, thank you also to our technical team Mr Mitchell and Mr Cole.
