“As you prepare to sail away on seas as yet uncharted know that you are doing so with the support and belief of your whole Walthamstow Hall family”, said Headmistress Miss Ferro in her address to Year 13 students at their Setting Sail ceremony yesterday evening.
The event celebrated every student with each being called to the stage to receive their leaving gifts including a silver ship pendant and a gift from their form tutor. The ceremony was also an opportunity to say an official farewell to retiring Director of Studies, Mr Steve Ledsham, and retiring Governor, Mr Alun Evans, who Chair of Governors, Mrs Jayne Adams, described as ‘our longest serving leaver’ having been a member of the Governing Body since before our Year 13 leavers were born! There were heartfelt thanks too for the work of the teaching staff and also to parents Mr and Mrs Cullum for their tireless commitment to the Friends & Parents Committee.
The evening really though was all about our wonderful students. Ashani and her saxophone opened the evening playing Piece en Forme de Habanera by Ravel and Eve gave a solo rendition of the Sung School Prayer. Head Girl, Isabella’s speech then included the perfect summation of this enthusiastic and vibrant year group describing them as ‘arriving as an explosion of energy” back in 2015 and reflecting on how they have harnessed their flamboyant personalities to bounce back from the trials of recent years and help to lead the way in restoring school life. They have set the tone and set a great example for younger pupils to follow, they have helped to establish a stronger than ever House system and built robust foundations in their work in diversity, inclusion, sustainability and student voice. Isabella concluded with a date for her peers’ diaries, Saturday 12 June 2032, when the Class of 2022 will meet back at School to mark their 10 year anniversary! We can’t wait to see what they achieve and wish them every success as they ‘sail away’ to study a rich plethora of courses, including; Ancient History and Archaeology, Architecture, Art Foundation, Biology, Business and Management, Chemistry, Criminology, Diagnostic Radiography, Economics, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, English Literature, Fashion Marketing, Forensic Science, Geography, Hair, Make-Up & Prosthetics for Performance, International Development, Language & Culture, Law, Liberal Arts, Mathematics, Medical Sciences, Medicine, Philosophy, Physics, Politics, Psychology, Sanskrit, Sociology & Social Policy, Sport %& Exercise Science, Textile Design, Theatre and Veterinary Medicine.
