We were delighted to welcome former England cricketer Lydia Greenway to officially open our new cricket nets in the Sports Hall. Lydia spent the afternoon coaching Junior and Senior girls in the nets and running a seminar with our Senior Sports Scholars.
Lydia is a strong advocate for the development of women’s cricket; she had a long and successful international career and was named England’s Women Cricketer of the Year in 2010. She now coaches, commentates and runs her own all-female cricket academy: Cricket for Girls.
Recalling that her own cricket background was in her back garden, Lydia praised the opportunity the nets give to students. She encouraged everyone to “keep enjoying yourselves”, whatever level they were playing at and gave straightforward tips for improvement.
A big thank you to our Wally family – who are happy to remain anonymous – for their very generous donation which enabled us to buy these nets.
