Houses
Walthamstow Hall Junior School has an active House system. Every pupil is a member of one of four Houses each named after renowned female authors; Farjeon (The Glass Slipper), Garnett (The Family from One End Street), Norton (The Borrowers) and Streatfeild (Ballet Shoes). Sisters and family members are allocated the same House. The daughters of Walthamstow Hall alumnae can also be placed in their mother’s old House.
The House system encourages teamwork across different year groups and provides opportunities for the development of inter-personal and leadership and teamwork skills with a spirit of fair competition.
Up to two Year 6 House Captains and Games Captains are appointed to each House; each holds the responsibility for one term before handing on to their successor. House Captains and Games Captains are nominated by the Head of the Junior School. The House system is overseen by the Deputy Head and staff members are assigned to support specific Houses.
House Captains and Games Captains lead House meetings twice a term and prepare and help to organise the House events including; Netball, Rounders, Swimming, Spellathon, Number Challenge, Music, Singing and the House Charity Fund raising event, the Charity Fiesta, in the Summer term. In addition, each House is responsible for preparing and presenting assemblies at the start of the academic year, and for raising money for their House Charity.
House Points are awarded for outstanding effort, service or special contributions and they count towards the House Cup awarded every week.
